Avalon to Newport Beach
Left Avalon at 10am, hoping to arrive in NB around 4pm. A little overcast with 5 to 10 knot winds. Looking forward to spending time with Family!
With enough wind that we put two reefs in before lunch, the Newport Beach Harbor entrance buoy was within sight by 3pm! We had a great sail beam-reaching at a steady 6 knots in the rain. Even managed to warm up with some hand-presso espresso!
What a harbor! I’ve never seen so many boats in one place. The city offers moorings for $16/night in the winter, and they even have a free anchorage area. However, the Balboa Yacht Club was nice enough to put us up on one of their moorings for our first night here. We are a little wet from the trip so once I get the dinghy in the water, our first stop – Bill and Jean’s on Balboa Island. Showers, laundry, wine, good conversation, a puppy and a warm bed!
