“Our own personal El Guapo”…or how we get into Mexico:
Random San Diego
Our “Lucky Day” is finally here and we are headed for the border! Leaving at 3 or 4 AM tonight/tomorrow morning…
We have tried to make the following information as “fun” as possible, but really it’s mostly a list of what’s and (approximate) when’s. I should add that we will have limited, if any, communication over the next 6 or 7 days so don’t think we are ignoring you. ☺
Schedule-ish
(Hours calculated at an average of 5knots. Yeah, you heard me – 5 nautical miles per hour! And that’s fast for Stormy)
San Diego – Ensenada: 63nm, 13hours
We will stay at the Baja Naval Marina for 2 nights. A marina staff person will actually drive us around town and help us take care of all of our immigration paperwork. They’ll even take us by the cell-phone store and help us get a prepaid sim card and 3g modem for internets in Mexico.
We show them our: Vessel Documentation, Inventory List, Mexican Liability Insurance, Passports, Crew List in Spanish…
They give us: a 6-month Mexican Tourist Visa, Temporary Boat Import Permit, Port of Entry Import Papers, Port of Entry Clearance Papers, and pretty stamps on all our documents.
And then it’s Margarita time!
Until…
Ensenada → Turtle Bay: 290nm, 2 days 12 hours (that’s 60 hours at Sea, my friends)
Turtle Bay → Magdalena Bay: 250nm, 2 days 3 hours (50 hours)
Magdalena Bay → Cabo: 171nm, 1 day 11 hours (35 hours if you still can’t do maths)
So, after all this time, in just 7 days we should be in the Sea of Cortez.
I suppose should write more about northwesterly prevailing winds or some such seafaring talk, but my mind is more on the amount of time I have to spend rolling around at sea between ports. I believe I will be facing my own personal El Guapo and kicking his ASS!
Good night, Ned.
(for those of you who have not seen Three Amigos, it is time)
Safe travels Popeye and Olive oil.
Best wishes are thoughts will be with you the whole way. We’re very proud of you.
